What is Peer to Peer?
Strada uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) or point-to-point protocol in order to establish connections between computers. Over the last six years, peer-to-peer technology has evolved from relatively simple file-sharing and direct-connect models into a more resilient, secure, and scalable foundation for modern applications.
IPv4 vs IPv6
Not all internet service providers (ISPs) are equally up to date. IPv6 is the most recent Internet Protocol and is how most global networks are configured. However some regions use older versions (IPv4) which can significantly compromise or inhibit the ability to establish a reliable P2P connection.
Can Strada work without a P2P Connection?
Strada will always attempt to establish a direct P2P connection between computers. In the event a P2P connection cannot be established, Strada will automatically spin-up a RELAY SERVER and transfer your files. This is a great way to ensure a transfer will happen in the event a P2P connection cannot be established. However a Relay Server will transfer much slower so if you plan to transfer large batches of files quickly, it's important to test your connections and verify your computers are connected peer-to-peer.
How do I know my connection is P2P or Relay?
After establishing a transfer to another computer running a Strada Agent, export a LOG and send the log to [email protected]
Our Engineering team will be able to determine the connection and advise accordingly.
How to Export a Transfer Log
• Right + Click on the Agent Dashboard icon (Strada "command" logo in your Menu bar"
• Click "Troubleshoot"
• Click "Export Logs"
• Save the Log and attached an email addressed to [email protected]
